Here in Sussex, we have been quietly making our products from recycled materials since the early nineties. Firmly rooted in the way we work and the products we create, the Artbox ethos reflects a strong environmental sensititvity,
We work as much as possible with local suppliers, keeping transport costs down and doing our bit to minimize the Artbox carbon footprint.
Smart product design: an intelligent and imaginative approach to product origination plays its part in saving resources. For example, the Artbox binding is essentially a clever loose-leaf system allowing books to be re-filled and covers re-used, making for longer living books.
Smart materials: recycled leather is wonderfully durable: not only does this mean that the products enjoy a long life, it also means that product packaging is only used when absolutely essential.
Smart production: reduction of waste is built in from the design stage and our production is fundamentally geared to the careful use of materials. This means lower costs all round - including to the environment.
Aesthetics, ethics and economics go hand in hand and at Artbox we delight in the creative transformation of natural, sustainable and recycled materials into fine quality products.
Recycled Leather is made from off-cuts and waste in the leather manufacturing process - it is reformed in a mill in much the same way as paper. The surface colours and the screen-print inks are water-based.
High grade recycled paper and board from British paper mills is used in our books and albums.
Beyond the materials and production, ecology is holistic: it is about the quality of life. Care and enthusiasm in the workplace are part of the same picture and at Artbox we still believe that small is beautiful.
