Inspirational and stylish books designed for life!
Introduction

A Brief History of Artbox

Artbox was established in the mid-eighties as specialists in the production of innovative gift stationery.  Aware of a need for more environmentally sensitive manufacturing, we soon developed our first recycled range.

Experimenting with unusual materials led to the discovery of recycled leather: textural and highly durable, it is the ideal book covering for the recycled paper and board which we have made for us by British mills.

The creative transformation of a traditional Japanese book-binding technique into the original Artbox binding has, with the smart recycled leather covers, resulted in what one leading retailer described as a contemporary classic.

The Conran Shop was quick to recognize the purity of the design and
distributed our first range of Natural and Grey recycled leather.  During these first green shoots of eco-retailing in the mid-nineties, Artbox products were taken up by the more adventurous stores.

Working from our Sussex studio in the lee of beautiful chalk hills, the ever-changing tones and textures of this open landscape are a constant inspiration. Having developed a passion for colour, we now stock an amazing collection: a shelf of Artbox books is as vivid as a rainbow and everyone has their favourite colour.

Screen print designs have been introduced, most recently the
White Tree range based on a design by Mark Hearld, an artist working
in the Sussex lino-cut print tradition.

The Artbox design style is sometimes quirky - see the Flexiframe! - but always functional and inspirational: we love to hear from those many creative souls who have personalized, embellished and cherished their Artbox books.

We believe, as Joseph Beuys said, that “Everyone is an artist.”
